41 x 45.5In the painting "Dary Woman" which is sometimes more accurately called "The maid in the kitchen", there is a woman pouring milk from a jug into a traditional Dutch kitchenware. She must must be relatively young, she has well-build figure and her position in the household is enhanced by expressive blue apron and rolled up sleeves. Light coming from a window in the upper left corner of the screen illuminates her, but half of her face cast in shadow. Her expression is so difficult to read, which according to some critics act similarly like the expression of
Mona Lisa . The room is almost completely empty, but in the lower right corner we see a foot warmer - a subject typical for cold periods. Dutch tradition, both in literature and in paintings in the seventeenth century depicted maids as objects of male desire.
Vermeer softens this view and rather puts something worthy of compassion into the picture.
Prevailing color of this fine art print is vivid and its shape is portrait. Original size is 41 x 45.5. This art piece is located in Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. This image is printed on demand - you can choose material, size and finishing.
Johannes, Jan or Johan Vermeer (1632-1675). Dutch painter. He enjoyed painting scenes from life and common situations in the households of townspeople. During his lifetime, he did not become famous and in his time, he was rather a provincial painter. He worked carefully and slowly; he loved to work with light and used brilliant colours with expensive pigments. His art was rediscovered in the 19th century and he has since slowly become a recognized and sought-after painter. He allegedly worked with the obscura camera to achieve true perspective and composition. Often his paintings depict one or two figures at the window. His most famous work is considered to be
Girl with a Pearl Earring.
